Alright, modern guy today, rather than an old guy. That is if you consider a modern guy someone who died around 70 years ago. Born the 21rst of September 1866 in Kent, he is known as the father of science fiction. He wrote many other genres, however, including a few pieces of social commentary on the times. He is probably most well known for “War of the worlds” though. He died the 13th of August 1946. Here he is:
